The Bookish Fairy

Young adult, magical realism, and every book in between infused with fairy dust...

Meeting Leigh Bardugo

February 1, 2019

My TBR for this year of 2019 was to read Leigh Bardugo’s books and I am happy to report that I read exactly one book and that is Smoke and Bone! So I had a very elaborate schedule of how I was going to read Bardugo’s books before meeting her for the January 31st King of Scars book signing and that was a big fail! Although I don’t feel as guilty about not reading the whole trilogy because my favorite booktuber readbyzoe also only read Shadow and Bone and she is one of the biggest booktubers our there so I don’t feel so bad!

Finally Meeting Leigh Bardugo…

The event kicked off at 6:30 and it began in the fan meetup room which was the cutest meetup ever! They had everything from a cute photobooth area, a place to pick up bookish pins and fun quizzes (Apparently I am part of the Etherealki order.) to find out what Grishaverse order you belong in, a Leigh Bardugo merchandise section with all her other books, and my fave booktube girls were there! Zoe from readbyzoe, Hailey from Hailey in Bookland, and Hannah from a Clockwork Reader were there!

And of course the piece de resistance…the King of Scars book!!! EEEK!

After the most epic fan meetup of my dreams, we finally got to hear the Queen of the Grishaverse Leigh Bardugo discuss her new upcoming book King of Scars! I thought the discussion setup was very interactive because the discussion focused on Q&A’s primarily! Since I have only read Smoke and Bone, I was completely lost throughout most of the Q&A because the questions were mostly made up of Six of Crows! Even though, I am not well-versed in the land of Bardugo I am still deliriously happy to be a part of this event and to delve into her books and find out who this Kaz is from Six of Crows! There were many questions about Kaz and fangirling over Kaz! I am definitely very interested to find out more about this KAZ!

My friends and I waited for about an hour for the Leigh Bardugo book signing and we took some fun bookish pictures and met some awesome bookish fangirls!

Finally, I had the opportunity to get face to face with the Grisha queen!

During the book signing, I told her that Shadow and Bone is the only book I have read from the Grishaverse and that I am completely obsessed with the Darkling! Bardugo smirked and said, “You have a long road ahead of you.” Those eight words have further confirmed the fact that I have to finish the rest of the Grishaverse asap and not prolong the series the way that I prolong every series that I have ever read…or not read yet…eeek

And just to top it all off after we got our book signed, we were gifted an adorable cookie inspired by the King of Scars book! Needless to say, after the book signing we were famished and we stopped by one of my favorite bars in Coral Gables to have a beer and when I got home I literally fed my demons with this delectable Leigh Bardugo cookie!

Tell me if you have ever been to a Leigh Bardugo signing and let me know what are your favorite books by Leigh Bardugo! And maybe give me some information about this Kaz I keep hearing about! If he is better than the Darkling then I am very intrigued!
